Pick Two

As you look back on this school year and start imagining the next, I encourage you to “pick two.”
Every year brings successes you want to repeat and lessons you’d rather never relive. Reflection and goal‑setting help us grow, but they can also overwhelm us. Add comparison to the mix, and suddenly you’re measuring yourself against “rock star” teachers who may have years of experience and opportunities you haven’t had yet.
Give yourself permission to focus.
Pick two goals that will guide your teaching next year. Two things that matter most to you. Let go of the pressure to meet everyone’s expectations or to do everything at once. That path leads straight to burnout.
Your two goals might be strengthening student‑led learning, tightening classroom procedures, building audiation skills, or learning new folk dances. Whatever they are, create a simple roadmap to help you move toward them with intention.
Choosing two clear priorities gives you direction, purpose, and breathing room. You can’t do everything all the time — but you can do a few things deeply and well.
Pick two.
